How To Be Saved For Eternal Life

Being saved is as simple as trusting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, believing in Him by faith, and turning away from your sins. Ask Him to fill you with the Holy Spirit and then accept the changes in your life the Spirit demands so God can use you fully in His plan. To be saved is to be born again in Christ. You will become a new creature, and your soul will hunger to become like Christ. You will grow to seek more knowledge of God and begin to share that knowledge with others.

Understanding The Gospel

The whole Bible revolves around the central theme of Jesus. In the 4 Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, we learn more specifically about the teaching of Jesus during His time spent on this earth. Jesus has left us essential key points to understand in these four books and throughout the Bible so we can have the knowledge to be saved for eternal life.

We are ALL Sinners

No matter how good of a person you are, we sin, breaking God's law every

day. Sin is a curse over this world that we cannot avoid. Without the help of God, we will sin blindly with hardened hearts, following the footsteps of Satan, who rules over this world.

  • Romans 3:10 "There is no one righteous, not even one."

  • James 2:10 "For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it."

  • Ephesians 2:1-2. "As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient."

The Penalty  Is Death

Sin leads us straight to death. We are born sinners under the curse of sin

brought on by Adam. God keeps a book of everything we have ever done in our lives. He will look into his records on our judgment day, and He will have an account of all of our sins. Since we can not avoid the curse of sin, we will all be judged guilty in God's eyes. This serves the most severe penalty, and we will be given eternal death in the lake of fire.

  • Romans 3:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

  • Romans 5:12 "Therefore, as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned,"

  • Revelation 20:11-14 "Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death."

Christ Paid Our Penalty

God came down to this world through the womb of a virgin woman. Named Jesus, He was 100% man and 100% God. Jesus is not another God. He is a part of the one true God with three unique characteristics in one essence known as the Trinity. "Click here for more information on the Trinity." Jesus was a righteous man, the only person never to sin. He did not deserve to die on the cross, and He did not deserve to be filled with our sins. When Jesus hung on that cross, He saw YOU, every one of us, independently and personally. Jesus willingly died to provide a way through Himself to redeem us from our sins and for us to become righteous in the presence of God, repairing our broken relationship with Him. He knew what must be done to save us from eternal death. So Jesus held back 12 legions of angels who would have rescued Him. He chose to limit himself to an Earthly body and die on that cross. Because of Jesus' sacrifice, He puts you in the "Book of Life" when you call upon Him. When you are entered in the Book of Life, Jesus erases your books of sin, and God only sees your name in the Book of Life. DO NOT leave Jesus at the cross. He rose three days later and currently resides in Heaven next to the Father. Christ is NOT dead. He is alive, waiting to return and rapture His people, bringing them to everlasting life with Him.

  • John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."

  • Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

  • Ephesians 1:7 " In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace."

  • Isiah 44:22 "I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.”

  • Acts 2:19 "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,"

  • Matthew 26:53-54 "Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?"

  • Revelation 20:15 "Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire."

  • Mark 16:19 "After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven, and he sat at the right hand of God."

Salvation Is A Free Gift

If you choose to accept the gift Jesus offers, your sins will be wiped clean and your name will be written in the lambs book of life. All you have to do to be saved is to call upon Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, believing in Him by faith, and repent of your sins. Repenting means to turn away from your sins, not willingly going back to them. Call out for God to change you. Accept His Holy Spirit into your body and be born again to live a new life.

  • 2 Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

  • Ephesians 2:8-9 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast."

  • John 14:6 "Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

  • Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Sinner's Prayer For Repentance

Dear Heavenly Father, I see the sins I have committed against you. I accept Jesus into my heart as my Lord and Savior, and I believe in my heart that he died on the cross and rose three days later. I ask you, God, through Jesus' sacrifice, to forgive me of my sins and wash them away with His blood. By the power of the Holy Spirit, give me the strength to turn from my sinful ways and be born into a new creation. Guide me in my new life to do your will and to show others your grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.

After Repentance

To be Saved is to be born again as a new creation. "2 Corinthians 5:17"

Leave Your Old Sinful Life

The cross not only saves you but demands a new life. You have made a crucial step in repenting of your sins and accepting Jesus, but the Christian journey does not stop with a sinner's prayer. You must ask God to help you leave your sinful life behind. Yes, we will sin throughout our lives, but you must allow and listen to the Holy Spirit convicting you. The sin you just committed should make you shameful about disappointing God. For God Judges our hearts and not our outward appearance. When we take one step back in sin, we need to take two steps forward with God.

Learn The Word Of God

You must learn and live your life in the Word Of God. Read your bible and study it, so you understand it. Join study groups and find mentors to assist you when learning it. When Jesus was in the wilderness, the Devil tempted Him many times. Each time the Devil tempted Him, Jesus quoted scripture, and the Devil was defeated. We will perish with a lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6), so we must put on our full armor of God. Satan will come and go like a season, and he will come back to us when we have our guard down and are weak. We must stay vigilant and knowledgeable in God's Word.

Become Christ Like

Christian means to be "Christ-Like." To go to church once a week and leave your faith at that is considered Lukewarm. Lukewarm Christianity can be more dangerous than being an Agnostic, Athiest, or Satanist. If you are not striving to live a pure life following God's rules, being kind, and helping others, you will turn people away from wanting to be Christians. You must be a good role model for others. They should look at you and say how wonderful, kind, and generous you are. Let others see the glow of God and the feeling of His presence shining through you.

Share With Others

You don't have to understand the Bible cover to cover, be a Bible scholar or a priest to point others to Jesus. Be Christ-like and on fire for Jesus. Show people how great it can be to live a peaceful life knowing you are saved for eternal life. When you begin to understand things in the Bible, share them with others. You might be your friends' only light in the darkness of this world. The church faces harsh struggles, and many people have never heard the gospel. Plant a seed in someone's head, give them some information to ponder on and help them with resources to learn more. With proper watering from scripture, their seed will sprout into a fruitful tree others can pick from. When you learn and share with others, they can give you feedback and questions that can then help you learn new things as well.  As you do this, remember God elects and saves people, not us. Strive to be the tool that God can use to reach lost people. In the end, God gets the glory, not us. Seeing all of the people in Heaven God used you to reach will be our incredible reward.
